Ok stereo but the speakers are awful Oct 07, 2010
By GFo The Sharp CD-DH899N has ok functionality but the speakers that come with it are terrible. They had high-end distortion even at low-moderate volume. This was the case with all the functions - CD, radio, tape, line-in and iPod. Thank goodness the speakers are not hard-wired in! I swapped them out with various other old speakers, and my best set was 15-year old Sony speakers with good speaker wire, which were 8 Ohm and had plenty of power handling. (The original speakers were 4 Ohm with thin wires.) That cleared up the distortion, although I have not tried cranking it yet. Why did Sharp design speakers that can't handle the signal??? The stereo itself works as advertised. Note that the cassette deck does not have a record function, only play. Also, there are no audio inputs to the stereo except a line-in. No audio outputs either, only the speakers. The CD tray is very flimsy, the tape deck is a little clunky, I kinda wish an extended warranty was available. I got this new on e-bay for a great prices, so it's an ok unit for a bedroom for the price, but do not buy this unless you have some good speakers to swap out!

Very happy! Feb 23, 2011
By Mat I wanted a nice system without spending a lot of money. Usually buy Sony...but really did not have the money for that brand....So, I purchased this one instead. GREAT product for the price. Sounds great, looks great, and is everything and more than I hoped for. I LOVE the remote that comes with it. I paid $175 which I thought was a bargain. Anything under $200 for this is a great deal. You will enjoy it! Go for it!

Very Hot item Jan 16, 2011
By Ron M I am completely happy with this purchase. I did however, replace the speakers with ones I already had. The speakers that came with the stereo, work and sound just fine. My room layout calls for longer speaker wires than what came with those. The extra length provided better sound separation. The 300 watts provides enough power to fire up just about any size speakers you prefer to use.

"MUSIC MAKES LIFE BEARABLE"
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it must be remembered that some reviewers are real audiophiles and much choosier-pickier than others. Many folks just want nice sound and a fairly simple operation and their listening requirements are not so fussy. I am one of the latter. I did not expect for $300.00 to be buying a top-notch component system, nor did I need that. I wanted a nice playing, simple-to-operate, multi-disk CD player with the option of using an Ipod with it. I must say I am very pleased with the quality of the sound that comes out of the speakers. I didn't expect such nice sound for the money. Those who complain about the speaker quality may have gotten a faulty unit, that does happen, or they are simply much pickier about such things as woofers & sub-woofers and so forth. Mine plays very nicely and has good volume choice & control and It doesn't need to be " cranked " to hear it well in adjoining rooms. That's a pro. The remote is easy to use & well-described in the user manual. Another pro is that it has both manual & remote control, so if the remote goes missing, you can still operate the unit manually. My biggest complaint is the noise it makes when cds are changing. It sounds clunky and whiney and I find that annoying, Another feature I dislike is that when I use the random-shuffle feature with say 5 cds, It often tends to play a few of them a lot and nearly ignore others. If I play only 2 or 3 disks, it chooses from them more evenly. Overall, I am pleased with the quality and use mine every day. I think it's rather sad that these are becoming a thing of the past as more & more folks opt for MP3players. It is getting hard to find decent ones to have in your home or office. Here's the thing: MP3 players are great for some things, but when you want to share music as at a dinner party or some sort of gathering, you need a system like this especially if you can't afford a higher grade component system. So, grab these while you can. This is a worthwhile music player.
